On June 22, President Obama called on all Americans serve their communities this summer through a new initiative, United We Serve.
The Youth Mentorship Program’s Steering Committee at a recent meeting to plan the project.
Part of the national United We Serve initiative, local civic leaders and organizations, convened by the Pike County Youth Coalition, are working on community service project to launch a mentorship program dedicated to the county’s at-risk youth.
The goal of the mentoring program will be to help reverse local trends of teenage pregnancy, drug use and school dropouts, as well as to provide positive role models for young people who might not have one. The Wayne/Pike Needs Assessment indicated that “Youth Support” was one of the top five priorities in the two-county area.
We need your help. Please use the form below if you are interested in helping to organize the program or becoming a mentor. If you have ideas, suggestions or questions please contact the Project Coordinator, Angela Tribus, at mentor@pikeyouth.org.
